General
The choice of the TAP adapter model depends on dimensional parameters related to the TAP connection of the bushings to be monitored. Since there are various types of connections, contact pins, and threads, doubts or mistakes in selection are common. Furthermore, the condition of the TAP can vary greatly due to natural wear and environmental conditions, which adds further challenges and requires extra attention when choosing the ideal adapter.

Warning!
It is essential that all steps are followed carefully and accurately, as any failure in the process may result in the incorrect selection of the TAP adapter model.
Procedure
Documentation Analysis
For the preliminary analysis to be carried out, all the documents listed below must be sent in advance to Treetech. This data is essential to ensure compatibility and the correct specification of the TAP adapter to be applied:
- Technical drawing of the transformer/reactor
- Technical drawing of the bushing with TAP dimensions
- Bushing datasheet and image of the nameplate
- Bushing maintenance history
On-Site Validation
After receiving the initial dimensional documentation, the stage of visual and dimensional verification of the TAP begins. At this phase, the person responsible for the asset must remove the protective cover, allowing access to the TAP connection point for inspection.
Visual Inspection
During the visual inspection, the following aspects must be observed:
- Corrosion on the TAP: This can compromise the quality of the electrical connection between the adapter and the TAP, affecting the accuracy of the leakage current measurement;
- Oil leakage through the bushing: This indicates possible seal failures, which could prevent the safe installation of the adapter or require corrective maintenance before installation;
- Condition of the TAP fixing threads: Damaged or worn threads can compromise the secure fit and the integrity of the seal;
- Cracks and dents: Mechanical deformations on or around the TAP can impair the seal and hinder the correct assembly of the adapter;
- Water ingress: The presence of water in the TAP poses a risk to both the system's insulation and the adapter's integrity;
- Physical Space for Installation: Assess if there are any components or obstacles at the location that could hinder or prevent the installation of the adapter.
Measuring TAP Dimensions
The TAP dimensions can be validated using the Dimensional TAP Checklist to be sent to Treetech document.
