Possible problems with installing the TAP adapters

Modified on Sat, 03 Sep 2022 at 09:30 AM

During the process of installing TAP adapters, it is possible to run into problems, the main ones being:

Water or Moisture Ingress

Often, water or moisture gets into the TAPs, making it harder to install the adapters. In such cases, it is necessary to clean the thread of the Capacitive TAP in the best possible way.

For specific sceneries, it is necessary to use a male tap or a die to redo the thread of the Capacitive TAP. Treetech is not authorized to intervene structurally in field equipment, so the maintenance department is responsible for the service.

Oil leakage before installation

Some of the Capacitive TAPs already present oil leakage before the installation of the TAP adapter. In these cases it is recommended to repair or replace the TAP or the bushing that presents this problem.

It is not recommended to install the TAP adapter while oil leakage is detected. If installation under such conditions is authorised by the customer, they assume responsibility for the installation.

Cable solder signals on the TA connector pin

In some cases, Capacitive TAPs show signs of solder on the TAP pin. It is necessary to remove this solder as well as possible to install the adapter.

Usually, in case of imperfections that hinder the connection of the adapter, it may be necessary to use abrasive material such as sponges or sandpaper. In these cases, the problem is presented to the maintenance personnel, as the responsibility for cleaning lies with the maintenance department.
