Smart BM problems solutions

While operating the software Smart BM version 2.16, some errors may occur. Presented below are the usual problems and each solution. If you can not solve the problem using this guide, contact Treetech SAC.

Communication problems

Error Opening COM port

If it is not configured correctly in the computer COM Port, the message ”Error opening COM port” will be shown.  

✓ Solution: Correct the parameter “COM port“ according to item 2 of the section Communicating with BM-HMI of Smart BM software usage guide and click again in the Connect button. 

Error reading BM-HMI   

If the communication with BM-HMI does not complete, the window “Smart BM software usage guide“ will appear.

 Solution: In this case, you must check all the configurations again.

  1. If more than one COM port in your computer is enabled, confirm if the correct one is selected to establish a connection with BM-HMI.
  2. Check the parameter “Address” and “Baud Rate” matching the configured values in BM-HMI (See section Communicating with BM-HMI of Smart BM software usage guide. ).
  3. Check if the parameters Serial Port (RS-485 or RS-232) and Protocol (it needs to be in Modbus protocol) are correct.
  4. Check if the cables connected to the RS-485 or RS-232 are attached correctly or if there is any disconnected cable.

Communication loss    

The communication loss between the software and BM-HMI may occur due to a bad connection on the converter. Smart BM will show the message Error in the Communication field and a red light indication. 

✓ Solution: Click the button Disconnect, check the converter connection and then click the button Connect. 

Log Download problems

Program Error. Causes: Path not found 

If you select a nonexistent folder, it will activate an error and the message Program Error. Causes: Path not Found will appear.

✓ Solution: Close the message window, select a folder by clicking the button Browse and then click the button Generate Database.   

The Measurement module is not responding 

This error will occur if a nonexistent BM-MM is selected. For example, if there is only one Measurement Module and you choose the information of a second module, no error message will appear. But the software Smart BM will not respond. 

✓ Solution: Restart the program and then do the download process again.    

Fake success message 

If the database download is interrupted, the message  “File generated Successfully“ will appear, but If the database download is interrupted, the message File generated Successfully will appear, along with an error message below the button Generate Database. If this occurs, will be shown the last sample added in the Sample field next to the Events and Measurements LOG.  

✓ Solution: restart the connection with BM, type the sample number in the “Sample“ field and then restart the download to continue from the interrupted point.
